Anthropic principle

Why is the universe so perfect for life?

Scientists study this with the anthropic principle. This idea says we see a special universe because we are here to see it. If the rules of space were different, life could not exist. If life did not exist, no one would be around to look at the stars.

Some parts of space must be just right. For example, the age of the universe matters. If it were ten times younger, there would be no carbon. Carbon is needed for life. If it were ten times older, most stars would be dead.

The rules of physics also matter. These are called fundamental constants. Small changes to these rules could change everything. A tiny change could stop stars from forming. It could even stop water from existing.

Some thinkers call this the weak anthropic principle. It says our place in time and space is special for us. Others talk about a strong version. This version looks at the rules of the whole universe. Some think there might be a multiverse. This is a large collection of many different universes.
