society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Sometimes we do not know a person's name.

This is called anonymity. It can happen by mistake. It can also happen on purpose.

A person might choose to be a secret helper. They might give money to charity but stay hidden. This can be done to be modest.

Other people want to stay safe. A witness might call to help without using a name. This helps them avoid trouble.

Some people use fake names too. These are called pseudonyms. A writer might use a pen name.

Being unknown can help with privacy. It can also help people feel free. It is a way to stay private.
