life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Have you ever felt a little bit mad? This feeling is called annoyance. It can make it hard to think. It can also lead to anger or frustration. Some people have irritability. This means they get annoyed very easily.

Many things can cause this feeling. A poke in the side can do it. A song on repeat can do it too. Even things you like can become annoying. This happens if you hear them many times. This is called repeated exposure.

People often see these things in media. You might hear ads or catchy songs. These play over many weeks or months. One study looked at how we react. It found that annoyance can grow. If a person causes it, the feeling gets worse. This happens if the problem is not fixed. People then blame the other person. They do not blame themselves.

Sometimes, people use annoyance as a tool. This is used in psychological warfare. This means using the mind to win. In 1993, the FBI used loud music. They played it in Waco, Texas. They wanted people to surrender. The music was picked to be very annoying.
