Many animals live in water. Fish often move by waving their bodies side-to-side. This motion ends at a large tail fin. This helps them push through the water. Some animals, like squid, use jet propulsion. They take in water and squirt it out fast to move.

Other animals move in the air. Flying animals must be light. They use wings to create lift. Lift is a force that pushes them up.

Some animals do not flap wings. They use gliding to stay in the air. This helps them travel long distances without much work.

On land, animals use legs to walk or run. Some animals, like frogs, use jumping. This is called saltation.
