Her path to stardom began with a big win. In 1992, she won the Pervotsvit singing contest at age thirteen. This led her to meet a producer named Yuriy Falyosa. She signed her first professional contract when she was fifteen. At that time, her contract said she could not marry. She later became famous using the name Ani Lorak. This name is actually "Karolina" spelled backward. She chose this name for a television show called Morning Star. In 1995, she performed at the Chervona Ruta festival. This helped her become a star in the Ukrainian music world.

Ani Lorak became a huge star in Europe in 2008. She represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. She sang a popular song called "Shady Lady." Her performance was very special and artistic. She wore an ornate dress designed by Roberto Cavalli. This dress was decorated with real Swarovski diamonds. She also worked with a choreographer named Fokas Evangelinos. Her dance moves and singing helped her win second place. She even received an Artistic Award from former contest winners. This was one of the best scores for Ukraine.

Throughout her career, she has released many different albums. Some of her albums were in Ukrainian, like "Tam, de ty ye...". Others were in Russian, such as "Khochu letat" from 1996. She even made an English album called "Smile." In 1999, she earned the title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine. She also worked as a UN GoodWill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS. In 2014, she was a coach on the show "Holos Krainy." She helped many new singers start their own careers. She has toured many places, including the United States and Germany.

Life has brought many changes and hard moments for her. In 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Lorak chose to live and work in Russia during this time. This caused many people in Ukraine to feel very upset. Because of her choices, the Ukrainian government took away her state honors. They also said she cannot enter Ukraine for five years. In 2025, she received Russian citizenship. Her life shows how music and politics can be linked together. Even with these changes, she continues to perform for her fans.
