Some lizards have no legs. People call them glass lizards or slow worms.

They get these names because their tails snap off easily. This helps them stay safe.

These lizards live in many places. They live in Europe and Asia. Some live in North Africa. Others live in North America. They first appeared in Europe a long time ago. This was about 48.6 million years ago. Their ancestors came from North America. They crossed a land bridge from Greenland. Later, they moved toward Asia. They also moved to North America.

Most of these lizards eat bugs. They eat small things that crawl. Most have no legs at all. Some have tiny hindlegs. We call these legs vestigial, which means they are very small and do not do much.

One kind is called the Sheltopusik. It is the largest living species. It can grow very long.

There are many types of these lizards. Some live in eastern Asia. Others live in eastern North America. They are a very special group of animals.
