These healers were very highly respected in their land. Even famous rulers from other places hired Egyptian doctors. This shows how much people trusted their medical skills.

Egyptian doctors used many steps to help a patient. First, they would examine the person to find the problem. This is called a diagnosis. Next, they would decide on a treatment. They also made a prognosis, which is a guess about the future.

Some injuries were easy to fix right away. Other injuries were called contestable, so doctors watched them to see if they survived first. Some injuries were simply untreatable.

They measured these ingredients by volume instead of weight. They also used magic and special chants with their medicine.

Many things we know about the body today connect to their ideas.

The Egyptians thought the body had channels like the Nile River. They believed these channels carried air, water, and blood. If a channel got blocked, they thought a person would get sick. They used medicine to try to unblock these paths. They also knew about the pulse and the heart. Even though they did not know how blood circulated, they were very observant.
