She worked as a nurse. Later, she took part in baby farming. This was a way to care for babies for money. She told mothers she would provide a loving home. But she was not a kind person. Many babies died while in her care. Some died from neglect. Others were murdered by her.

Police found out about her crimes in 1896. They found a package in the River Thames. This package held the body of a baby. It led the police to Dyer. They found more bodies in the river. They also found clues in her home. These clues showed she had hurt many children.

In a trial, she was found guilty of murder. She was punished for her crimes. Her actions changed the world. New laws were made to protect children. Groups like the NSPCC began to work harder. These groups help keep children safe today.
