He changed how banks work for regular people. Most banks back then only helped the very rich. Giannini wanted to help the "little fellow." This meant he served middle-class people and immigrants. He was especially helpful to Italian immigrants in California. His hard work helped create the Bank of America. He is remembered as a builder of the modern world.

His life began with hard work and big changes. He was born in San Jose, California, in 1870. His parents moved from Italy to find gold. His father, Luigi, worked during the gold rush. Later, Amadeo worked in the produce business. He sold fruits and vegetables from local farms. He was very good at this business. He eventually moved into banking to help his community.

In 1904, Giannini started the Bank of Italy.

He opened it in a converted saloon in San Francisco. On the first day, people deposited $8,780. Within one year, that number grew to over $700,000. A huge earthquake and fire hit the city in 1906. Giannini acted very quickly to save the money. He hid the bank's cash in a garbage wagon. This helped keep the money safe from the fires.

After the earthquake, Giannini helped the city rebuild. He worked from a wooden plank over two barrels. He gave loans to people with just a handshake. He believed these people would pay him back. He also started using branches in different cities. In 1909, he opened a branch in San Jose. By 1916, he had many more branches. He even invested in the Bank of America in Los Angeles. By 1929, his bank had over 400 offices.

His money helped create many things we know today. He lent money to Walt Disney for the movie Snow White. He also helped start the company Hewlett-Packard. During the Great Depression, he helped fund the Golden Gate Bridge. He even helped rebuild factories in Italy after World War II. Many schools and buildings are named after him now. He was a leader who helped many industries grow. His legacy lives on in the way we use banks today.
