Aluminium sulfate is a salt that people use in many ways. It can dissolve in water. People often call it alum.

One big job is cleaning water. It works through a way called coagulation. This is when tiny bits of dirt clump together. These clumps become larger and heavier. They sink to the bottom. This makes the water clear.

This salt helps make paper, too. It is used in making cloth. It helps dye stay on the fabric. In gardens, it can change soil. This can make Hydrangea flowers turn blue.

It is even used to fight fires. It can make a thick foam. This foam floats on fuel. It blocks oxygen so the fire goes out.

In science, it is used in vaccines. It helps the vaccine work better. It lets out the medicine slowly. This helps the body learn.

Some people use it as a deodorant. It can also help stop bleeding from small shaving cuts. It is a very useful tool for many jobs.
