A famous waterfall is at Afqa. The water flows from a large limestone cave. This cave holds melted snow from the mountains. The water then flows out to make the Adonis River. This river is also called the Abraham River. The falls sit on a cliff that looks like a big, natural theater.

In the past, people built a great temple here. They used it to honor the goddess Aphrodite. Today, you can still see big stone blocks and a tall column. These are parts of the old temple. There are also ruins of a Roman aqueduct. An aqueduct is a way to move water to a city.

In the spring, the river can turn red. This happens when red soil flows into the water. Many red flowers called anemones grow in the valley. They are often called Adonis' flowers. Afqa is a place full of history and beauty.
