He was famous for his quick wit and funny ideas. For sixty years, he worked with his partner, Betty Comden. They were not a romantic couple, but they were a great team. Together, they helped shape the world of musical theater and movies. Their work brought joy to many people through music and comedy.

Green and Comden had a very specific way of working. They often wrote both the words for songs and the scripts for plays. They worked with many famous musicians and actors to bring their ideas to life. For example, they teamed up with Leonard Bernstein for the musical On the Town.

Green's journey began in the Bronx, New York. He was the youngest of three sons born to Hungarian Jewish immigrants. After he finished high school, he worked as a runner on Wall Street. While doing that job, he also tried to become an actor. In 1938, he met Betty Comden through friends. They formed a group called the Revuers to perform in New York City. This group included his friend, the famous musician Leonard Bernstein.

His career was full of big successes and famous names. One of his most famous works was the film Singin' in the Rain.
