Many people use this style for religion. Some churches sing without any instruments. They do this to follow their faith. In Jewish traditions, people sing zemirot, which are Sabbath songs. They also sing without instruments during special times of mourning. One special instrument used in synagogues is the shofar. It is a horn used for specific sounds.

Today, many groups sing a cappella for fun. Some groups sing in styles like barbershop or doo-wop.
