Why does the Moon appear to change shape?

Reading level 4 of 5 · FluentChange
1 · Shorter sentences5 · More detail

The eight named phases are checkpoints in a continuous cycle. A quarter Moon looks half-lit because the name describes its place in the cycle, not the fraction of its visible face that is bright.

Word help
Phase

Waxing
