Zero-dimensional space

math Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Think about a tiny dot. In math, this is a point. A point has no size. It has zero dimension.

Some spaces are made of points. These are called zero-dimensional spaces. They do not have width or height.

In these spaces, points can be far apart. They can also be spread out. Some points sit all alone. These are called isolated points.

There are special names for these spaces. One is called the Cantor space. Another is the Baire space.

Math helps us study these dots. It shows how they fit together.
