As a boy, he used a telescope to look up. He wanted to travel to the Moon. He studied hard to learn about math and science.

He worked in Germany to build big rockets. One rocket even reached space! Later, he moved to the United States.

In America, he helped build the Saturn V rocket. This huge rocket sent people to the Moon.

As a boy, he used a telescope to study stars. He studied math and physics to learn about rockets. He even built a toy rocket car with fireworks! This showed his deep drive to travel to space.

In Germany, von Braun led a team to build rockets. They made the V-2 rocket. On June 20, 1944, this rocket became the first man-made object to reach space. During this time, von Braun joined the Nazi Party and the SS. He said he did this to keep working on his rockets. Some people believe he did this to avoid being punished.

After the war, von Braun moved to the United States. He worked for the U.S. Army. He helped launch the first American satellite, Explorer 1, in 1958. He also made films with Walt Disney to show how space travel might work.

Later, he joined NASA. He was the chief architect for the Saturn V. This was a super heavy-lift rocket. It carried the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon.

He was born on March 23, 1912, in a small town called Wirsitz. His mother, Emmy, gave him a telescope when he was young. This gift helped him fall in love with looking at the stars. He even learned to play the piano and the cello. As a boy, he was so excited about rockets that he built a toy car. He attached large fireworks to it and launched it on a sidewalk. This showed his strong drive to spend his life studying space travel.

To reach his goals, von Braun studied very hard. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1932. Later, he earned a doctorate in physics in 1934. He worked with other scientists to test rockets using liquid fuel. One of his biggest early successes was the V-2 rocket. On June 20, 1944, this rocket crossed the Kármán line. This line is the edge of space. Because of this, the V-2 was the first man-made object to travel into space.

His career involved working with very difficult groups. In Germany, he joined the Nazi Party and the SS. He said he joined so he could keep his rocket work going. He wanted to avoid losing his job or being punished. After World War II ended, he moved to the United States. This was part of a secret plan called Operation Paperclip. About 1,600 other German scientists and engineers moved with him. He began working for the United States Army to build new missiles.

In the United States, von Braun helped start the space age. He helped launch the first American satellite, Explorer 1, in 1958. Between 1955 and 1957, he worked with Walt Disney on films. These films helped many people imagine traveling to space. In 1960, his team joined NASA. He became the director of the Marshall Space Flight Center. He was the chief architect for the Saturn V rocket. This was a huge rocket used to send the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon.

Many people call him the father of rocket science. He received many honors for his hard work. In 1967, he joined the National Academy of Engineering. In 1975, he received the National Medal of Science. Some people still debate his choices during the war. However, his work changed how we see the universe. Near the end of his life, he even talked about missions to Mars.

His work helped bridge the gap between theoretical physics and actual space exploration. He played a central role in developing rocket technology in both Nazi Germany and the United States. Because of his massive contributions to launch vehicles, he is often called the \"father of rocket science\" or the \"father of the American lunar program.\"

\n\nVon Braun's journey began with a deep fascination with the stars. Born on March 23, 1912, in Wirsitz, Prussia, he was gifted a telescope by his mother, Emmy. This sparked a lifelong passion for astronomy. As a teenager, he was so driven by the \"Rocket Rumble\" fad that he once launched a homemade toy rocket car using large fireworks on a public sidewalk.

This early determination led him to study mechanical engineering at the Technische Hochschule Berlin, graduating in 1932. He later earned a doctorate in physics from the Friedrich-Wilhelm University of Berlin in 1934. He was heavily influenced by the rocket pioneer Hermann Oberth, whom he credited with providing the mathematical foundation for his career.\n\nDuring World War II, von Braun worked within the Nazi German rocket development program. He served as the Technical Director at the Army Rocket Center in Peenemünde. Under this regime, he helped co-develop the V-2 rocket. On June 20, 1944, a V-2 rocket became the first artificial object to reach space by crossing the Kármán line. To maintain his research position, von Braun joined the Nazi Party in 1937. He also joined the SS, eventually reaching the rank of Untersturmführer. He later claimed these decisions were made to protect his work or avoid punishment. Some historians note that his involvement remains a point of intense debate regarding his awareness of Nazi war crimes.\n\nFollowing the end of the war, von Braun’s life changed through a secret program called Operation Paperclip. The United States moved him and approximately 1,600 other German scientists and engineers to America. He began working for the U.S. Army on intermediate-range ballistic missile programs. In 1958, his engineering expertise helped launch Explorer 1, the first United States space satellite. Between 1955 and 1957, he also collaborated with Walt Disney on a series of films. These films were instrumental in popularizing the concept of human space travel for the American public.
