He served as the sixth premier of China from 2003 to 2013. A premier is the head of a government. During his time in office, he was the main person in charge of China's economy. Many people called him "the people's premier." This was because he focused on helping ordinary people. He wanted to make sure that growth helped everyone, not just people in big cities.

Wen used many different ways to help the country grow. He did not just look at how much money cities made. He also looked at the health and education of all citizens. His government worked on a plan called "Five Comprehensive Coordinations." This plan aimed to fix gaps between rich and poor areas. One big step was ending a farm tax that had existed for a thousand years in 2005. He also started big building projects to help different parts of the country. After a global financial crisis in 2008, his government put four trillion yuan into the economy to help it stay strong.

Wen's journey to leadership started a long time ago. He was born in the Beichen district of Tianjin in 1942. He went to school at the Beijing Institute of Geology from 1960 to 1965. There, he studied geological surveying, which is the study of rocks and the earth. He joined the Chinese Communist Party while he was still a student in 1965. Later, he worked in the geology bureau in Gansu province. He rose through many roles, such as working in the party's General Office for eight years.

Throughout his career, Wen handled many big challenges. In 1989, he was with a leader named Zhao Ziyang during the Tiananmen Square protests. While Zhao lost his position, Wen was able to continue his work in the government. He also worked closely with his mentor, Zhu Rongji, as a Vice Premier starting in 1998. Wen was known for being very good with numbers and details. He even said that his brain was like a computer for storing statistics.
