This method uses long, raised beds of soil. These beds sit between narrow paths of water.

These water paths are also called canals.

This way of farming helps in many ways. The canals bring water to the plants. This is called irrigation. The canals also help drain water away during big floods. The water in the canals catches heat from the sun. At night, this heat keeps the plants warm. This stops the frost from hurting the crops.

The soil in the beds is very rich. It gets nutrients from plants that grow in the water. This makes the soil good for growing food like potatoes and quinoa. These fields even attract fish and birds.

People used this method a long time ago. It is linked to the Tiwanaku culture. Today, many people are using Waru Waru again. It helps them farm in hard places like the Amazon basin. It is a great way to grow food without cutting down trees.
