Warehouses can hold raw materials or finished goods. They might even hold spare parts.

In the past, people used pits to store food. In ancient Rome, they built large structures called horrea.

These buildings were very big. One complex had 140 rooms on the ground floor. During the Industrial Revolution, warehouses changed. They were built near canals, railways, or ports. New tools like steam power helped move heavy items.

Modern warehouses use many special parts. There is a loading area to move goods from trucks.
