Richard H. Kirk made a music album called Virtual State. It was his first solo album for Warp Records. He played all the instruments on every song. This album has ten tracks. One song is very long. It is called Lagoon West and lasts 12 minutes.

People liked the music very much. One magazine said the songs have a dance beat. They also said the music shows progress. Another writer said it sounds like state of the art trance. This is a type of electronic music. The music also links to a genre called cyberpunk.

Kirk chose the name Virtual State for a reason. He has some fears about the future. He does not want to live in a world that is not real. He thinks virtual reality is getting out of hand. He even had a nightmare about a headset. In his dream, he could not take the headset off. This idea helped him name his new work.
