It is made of Parian marble. This is a type of white stone. Most people think it shows Aphrodite. She was the Greek goddess of love.

A farmer found the statue in 1820. He found it on the island of Milos. The statue is larger than a real person. It is missing both arms. It is also missing a foot and some earlobes. Some think she once held an apple. A marble hand holding an apple was found nearby.

The statue shows two styles of art. It uses parts of the Classical style. These are the small eyes and mouth. It also uses the Hellenistic style. This style shows the shape of her body. It also shows her carved clothes. The stone feels smooth on her skin. But you can still see tool marks on other parts.

The statue is now in the Louvre Museum in France. It has been there since 1821. Many artists and poets have used it for ideas. It is one of the most famous works of art in the world.
