To understand his success, one must look at his specific race achievements. In the 100 metres, Bolt became the first person to hold both the 100 m and 200 m world records simultaneously since fully automatic timing became mandatory. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he achieved this double victory. In the 200 metres, Bolt showed extreme dominance. He won four World Championship titles in this event. He broke the 200 m world record twice, setting times of 19.30 seconds in 2008 and 19.19 seconds in 2009.

He was born on 21 August 1986 to parents Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt. As a child, he played cricket and football in the streets. He attended Waldensia Primary School, where he became the fastest runner by age twelve. Later, at William Knibb Memorial High School, a cricket coach noticed his sprinting speed. This coach encouraged him to try track and field. He eventually moved to Kingston to train at the University of Technology.

His rise to the world stage involved several important developmental stages. At age 15, Bolt won the 200 m at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston. This made him the youngest world-junior gold medallist ever. He was also a highly successful junior athlete in the 400 metres. In 2004, he turned professional under coach Fitz Coleman. He became the first junior sprinter to run the 200 m in under twenty seconds, with a time of 19.93 seconds.
