People make a special purple color.

Purple Purpur (retouched)
Purple Purpur (retouched)

It comes from small sea snails. These snails live in the sea. They make a tiny bit of goo. This goo turns into dye.

Making the dye is hard work. It takes many, many snails. It takes a long time to make. This makes the color very dear.

Because it costs so much, it is for rich people. It was used for royal robes. It was a sign of power.

The color does not fade. It even gets brighter in the sun. This is a very cool trick!
