Truth value

math Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Think about a light switch. It is either on or off. This is like truth values. In math, things are true or false. This is called classical logic.

Computers use these values too. They use them to make choices. Some things are seen as false. This includes the number zero. An empty list is also false.

Other things are seen as true. A number like one is true. Words with letters can be true.

Some math uses more than two values. This can show degrees of truth. It is not just on or off.

Math helps us find the truth. It is a very cool tool.
