A trim tab is a small part on a boat or plane.

It is attached to a larger control part. These larger parts are called elevators or rudders.

The trim tab helps keep the craft steady. It works by changing its angle. This change helps balance the forces of wind or water.

Without a trim tab, a pilot must use constant force. They might have to pull a lever for a long time. The trim tab can do this work for them. It acts like a servo tab, which is a part that helps move the main control. When the tab moves, it creates a force. This force pushes the larger part into the right spot.

On planes, trim tabs help with speed and weight. A pilot can use a wheel to adjust them. For example, turning a wheel up can make the nose go down.

This lets the pilot focus on other important tasks. It also saves fuel by reducing drag. Drag is the force that slows things down. Using trim tabs makes flying much easier and more efficient.
