Thomas Schelling was a famous thinker. He was an economist. This means he studied how people use money and resources. He was also a professor at many big schools. He taught at Harvard and the University of Maryland.

Schelling used something called game theory. This is a way to study how people make choices. He wanted to know how people fight and how they work together. He wrote a famous book called "The Strategy of Conflict." In it, he said people can find ways to cooperate. Cooperation means working together to reach a goal. He also studied how to prevent nuclear war. This helped keep the world safer.

He looked at how groups of people live together. He used coins on paper to show how groups can separate. This is called segregation. He also studied global warming. He thought the world needed to bargain to fix it. Rich countries might pay more to help poor countries.

In 2005, Schelling won the Nobel Prize. This is a very big honor. He shared it with Robert Aumann. His family sold his Nobel medal. They gave the money to a group that fights for civil rights.
