He was famous for writing satirical novels. Satire is a way of writing that uses humor to criticize ideas. His stories usually had a very specific setup. Characters would sit around a table and discuss big ideas. They would argue about the philosophical opinions of their time. This style helped him find his true gift for writing.

Through these books, he shared his clever thoughts with the world.

Peacock's life involved many different kinds of work and study. He was largely self-educated after leaving school in 1798. He spent many years studying at the British Museum. There, he read books in Greek, Latin, French, and Italian. He also worked as a clerk for a company in London. Later, he served as a private secretary on a ship. He did not enjoy life at sea very much. He once called the ship a "floating inferno." He much preferred writing comedies at home.

His early years were shaped by travel and family. He was born in Weymouth, Dorset, in 1785. His father was a glass merchant in London. After his father died, Peacock lived with his mother in Chertsey. He took long walking tours through Scotland and Wales. In 1806, he went on a solitary walk through Scotland. He also traveled to North Wales in 1810. These trips helped him see many beautiful places. He even climbed a mountain called Cadair Idris.

Peacock was a very important friend to the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. They met in 1812 and shared many ideas. Peacock even helped Shelley find a new home near Great Marlow. They spent winters studying Greek together. Peacock also helped Shelley's wife, Mary, and their family. He wrote many poems that were influenced by Shelley. One famous example is his poem called Rhododaphne. Their friendship was a major part of his life.
