The Road is a famous book by Cormac McCarthy. It tells a story about a father and his young son. They walk across the United States. The land is covered in ash. This happened after a big disaster destroyed most life on Earth.

The pair travels south to find warmth. They carry their few things in a cart. The father wants to keep his son safe. He tells the boy they are "good guys." He says they are "carrying the fire."

This book is very special. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2007. Many people think it is a great story. It was also made into a movie in 2009. A comic book version came out in 2024.

McCarthy got the idea for the story in Texas. He thought about his own son while he wrote. He wrote the whole book in six weeks. He even dedicated the book to his son, John Francis. The story shows how much a father loves his child.
