The Pearl Island is a massive artificial island located in Doha, Qatar.

An artificial island is a piece of land created by humans through land reclamation. This process involves adding material to the sea to create new coastline. This project was significant because it was the first land in Qatar available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals. By the year 2024, the island had grown to host approximately 52,000 residents. The development has completely reshaped the local geography by creating a brand new coastline.

The construction of such a large-scale project required a massive financial investment. When the project was first revealed in 2004, the initial cost was estimated at $2.5 billion. However, as the island was completed, the total cost was revised to approximately $15 billion. This enormous budget allowed for the creation of 12 distinct districts, also known as precincts. Each of these districts features its own unique architectural style. The residential areas are designed to blend various national and international themes. These include elements of Arabic, Mediterranean, and European cultures.

One of the most detailed areas is the Porto Arabia district. This precinct contains a large number of high-rise buildings known as towers. There are 31 towers in total within Porto Arabia, providing 4,700 apartments for residents. These towers were built by various developers, such as UDC and The Land. For example, the Porto Arabia towers include names like California, Florida, and Monaco. The address format for these units is specific, such as Unit 1234, 1 Porto Arabia.

Another major residential area is called Viva Bahriya. This district is also home to many tall buildings, with 29 towers planned in total. Some of these towers, like the Casablanca, were completed in January 2018. Other towers, such as the Imperial Ruby and Imperial Diamond, have been under construction. The address format in this area uses a similar system, such as Unit 1234, 1 Viva Bahriya. This district provides a different living experience compared to the more central precincts.

The Qanat Quartier precinct offers a very different atmosphere. It is described as a Venice-like community because of its water features.

The area includes an extensive system of canals and pedestrian-friendly squares. It also features beachfront townhouses for residents. When fully complete, this district will have 977 residential apartments spread across 31 buildings. It will also include 188 townhouses and 15 bridges. One of these bridges is a replica of the famous Rialto Bridge in Venice.

This area also provides 200 retail units and 200 moorings in the marina.

Tourism and hospitality are major parts of life on the island. There are currently six different hotels located throughout the various districts. Two of these hotels are unique because they sit on their own separate islets. These are the 281-key Marsa Malaz Kempinski and the 193-key St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island.

Other hotels include the Retaj Baywalk Residence, Sedra Arjaan by Rotana, Hilton Doha The Pearl, and the Four Seasons Resort and Residences. Visitors can also enjoy the Pearl Lagoon for recreation.

Transportation on the island is varied and depends on which district you are visiting. In Porto Arabia and Medina Centrale, many people use golf carts to get around. In Porto Arabia and Qanat Quartier, visitors can use boat taxis to travel by water. Limousines are also available in Porto Arabia, Medina Centrale, Qanat Quartier, and Viva Bahriya. For public transit, there are bus stations that connect to the Legtaifiya station. For example, the M110 bus route travels from Porto Arabia through parts of Viva Bahriya to a metro station. The island has also hosted major international events, such as the 2023 Qatar Classic Cars contest and events during the 2022 World Cup.
