This stone contains Jawi alphabet inscriptions. These inscriptions show local laws influenced by Sharia. The stone dates from between 1303 and 1387 CE. 
The modern political history of Terengganu involved several shifts in power. In 1909, the Anglo-Siamese Treaty transferred power from Siam to Britain. Terengganu became one of the Unfederated Malay States. This change caused tension and led to uprisings. The Peasant's Rebellion, or Pemberontakan Tani, occurred in 1928. It was led by Abdul Rahman Limbong and was stopped by British military force. During World War II, Japan occupied the state. After the war, British control returned. Terengganu eventually joined the Federation of Malaya in 1948. It became part of Malaysia in 1963.
The state's name, Terengganu, has several interesting theories. One theory says it comes from "terang ganu," meaning "bright rainbow" in Malay. Another story involves hunters from Pahang.
