Tenzing was a Buddhist. He worked as a porter on many climbs. A porter is someone who carries gear.

In 1953, Tenzing joined a big team. He climbed with Edmund Hillary. They reached the top of Everest on May 29. This was the highest point on Earth. They reached the summit at 11:30 a.m. Tenzing left chocolates in the snow. Hillary left a cross.

Tenzing was a very skilled climber. He once saved Hillary from a deep crack in the ice. He also helped a friend during a climb in 1947. Tenzing later became a leader at a climbing school. He even started his own trekking company. His son also climbed Everest one day. Tenzing is remembered as a great climber.
