Some of these columns had beautiful carvings.

In 356 BCE, the temple burned down. A man named Herostratus set the fire. He wanted people to know his name. Later, the people of Ephesus built a third temple. This one was even larger than the last. It had more than 127 columns. The temple was a very important place for the city. It was a place for many festivals. Eventually, the temple was destroyed again. Today, only small pieces and the stone base remain.
