In the original story, Todd uses a barber chair with a trap door. He pulls a lever to drop his customers into a basement. Mrs. Lovett then uses the bodies to make meat pies. She sells these pies in her shop. The two shops are even joined by a secret underground path.

Many people wonder if Todd was a real person. Scholars say there is no proof he existed. Some think the story comes from much older legends. Since then, many artists have shared this tale. People have made plays, movies, and even ballets about him. One famous musical version won many awards. Even rock bands have written songs about the character. The story of the "Demon Barber" remains a big part of culture.
