She spent her entire professional career playing for the Seattle Storm. Bird is famous for her ability to win at the highest levels. She is the only player in WNBA history to win titles in three different decades. This shows how much skill and hard work she kept over many years. Fans and coaches have voted her into several lists of the best players ever. She was named one of the top 15 players in 2011. Later, she was named in the top 20 in 2016 and the top 25 in 2021.

As a point guard, Bird was a leader on the court. A point guard is a player who helps run the team's plays. She was incredibly good at passing the ball to her teammates. In fact, she became the WNBA leader in total assists in 2017. She won the Nancy Lieberman Award three times for being the best point guard in the nation. Bird was also a very accurate shooter. At the University of Connecticut, she ranked first in three-point and free throw percentages. She knew how to score when her team needed it most.

Bird's journey began in Syosset, New York, on Long Island. Her father, Herschel, had Russian-Jewish roots. His family moved to the United States from what is now Ukraine. When her grandfather arrived at Ellis Island, the family name changed from "Boorda" to "Bird." Sue grew up playing many sports like soccer, tennis, and track. She started playing organized basketball in the sixth grade. By age 11, she was already playing during halftime at a college game. Her talent was so clear that a security guard even asked for her autograph.

Her life shows how sports can connect people across the world. She even holds citizenship in both the United States and Israel.
