Stretching helps you move more easily. This is called flexibility. Many animals stretch, too.

A tiger might stretch after it wakes up. Humans do it too. We often stretch after we have been still for a long time.

There are two main ways to stretch. One way is called dynamic stretching. This uses movement to loosen up your muscles.

Another way is called static stretching. This means you stay still in one position. Some people use static stretching to help with muscle cramps.

Stretching can also help your mind. It may help you feel less worried or sad. It might even help you feel more full of life. However, you must be careful. Stretching the wrong way can cause damage. Doing static stretches for a long time before sports might even lower your strength. It is best to use moving stretches to warm up your body before you play.
