Sore throat

life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A sore throat is pain in your throat. It can feel scratchy or burning. It might hurt when you swallow. It can even hurt to talk.

Most sore throats come from a tiny germ called a virus. These germs do not need special medicine. Some sore throats come from bacteria instead.

Doctors can use a quick test to check for bacteria. They use a small swab in your throat. This test can take ten minutes.

To feel better, you can gargle salt water. Some people use lozenges to soothe the pain. A cold drink may help too.

Most kids feel better in a few days.
