Sodalite is a special mineral.

It is often a royal blue color. It can also be pink, green, or yellow. Some stones have white spots or veins. People use the blue stones for jewelry. They make beads and rings from them.

This mineral has a very cool shape. It is made of tiny cages. These cages are called a zeolite structure. These cages can hold other tiny parts. This makes sodalite useful for holding different things.

A type of sodalite is called hackmanite.

It shows a trick called tenebrescence. This means it can change color in the light. For example, it may turn from white to pink in the sun. If you leave it in the dark, the color may fade back.

Most sodalite will glow orange under ultraviolet light. This is a special kind of light. People first found sodalite in Greenland in 1811. Later, they found large amounts in Canada. You can also find it in places like Brazil and Russia.
