However, the bones supporting the brain, such as the occipital and sphenoid, form through endochondral ossification. This growth is very rapid during certain stages. For instance, the anterior cranial fossa undergoes significant allometric growth during the first trimester of pregnancy. A human skull is not considered fully developed until two years after birth.
