These states rose and fell very fast. They fought each other for power. They also fought the Jin dynasty in the south. One state, the Former Qin, briefly ruled the north. It ruled for seven years. But the Former Qin fell after a big battle. This battle was at the Fei River. During these years, Buddhism grew very fast. It became a popular religion. Some rulers even gave it official support. The Sixteen Kingdoms ended when the Northern Wei state unified the north. This new rule lasted for about one hundred years.
