Some researchers use slightly different years, like 1925 or 1926. This group lived through many big changes in the world. They are often called the Traditionalist Generation. In Australia, people call them the Builders. This is because they helped build their nation after hard times. They sit in history between the Greatest Generation and the baby boomers.

Many things shaped how these people grew up. In the United States, the Great Depression and World War II made the group smaller. These hard times meant families had fewer children.

In the United Kingdom, children often faced big changes too. Many were evacuated to the countryside to stay safe from bombs.

In the Soviet Union, people also faced a lack of food and resources. They lived through very difficult years during the 1930s and 1940s.

Life changed a lot as this generation grew older. In the United Kingdom, the 1950s and 1960s brought more money to many homes.

People started buying new things like televisions. In the United States, the term "Silent Generation" was first used by Time magazine in 1951. Some people think they were called "silent" because they did not speak out much during the McCarthy Era. Others say the name comes from strict rules for children to be "seen but not heard."

This generation did many important things in the world. Some people say they liked following traditions. However, they also led big movements like the civil rights movement. They even helped create rock and roll music in the 1950s and 1960s. In the United Kingdom, many young people joined the scouts or played with model airplanes. As they got older, they saw big shifts in how people worked. In the 1970s, many old factories closed down in the UK. This caused many people to feel frustrated by the changes.

Today, we can see how this group shaped our modern world. They lived through times of great struggle and times of great comfort. In the United Kingdom, some people in this group benefited from new rules to buy their own homes.
