One group was from Greece. The other was from Carthage. They fought on the big island of Sicily.

Both groups were good at sailing. They used ships to trade goods. They also wanted to own the island. This led to many battles.

In one big fight, the Greeks won.

This helped the Greek cities grow rich. They built many new things.

Later, the fighting started again. The groups still wanted control. The wars lasted for a long time.

We know much from Greek books. We do not have books from Carthage. It was a very busy time for the sea.
