It lives in the grasslands of Africa. It has a body like an eagle. But it also has very long legs.

These legs help it walk on the ground.

This bird hunts for food on the grass. It finds bugs and small animals to eat. The bird uses its feet to stomp on them. This helps the bird catch its food.

The bird has a red face. It also has black feathers on its head. These feathers look like pens behind an ear. This is how it got its name.

Both males and females look the same. They build nests in thorny trees. They lay one to three eggs in a nest. The birds stay together in pairs.

Today, these birds are in trouble. They are losing the places where they live. We must help protect them.
