It is one of the top five most read papers in the country. The company is part of the Fujisankei Communications Group. It also owns a radio station in Osaka called OBC.

This newspaper grew from two older papers. One was Jiji News, which started in 1882. The other was Nihon Kogyo Shimbun, which began in 1933. Many mergers helped make the modern paper we know today.

The paper is known for its political views. It has a conservative and nationalist stance. This means it often supports traditional ideas. Some people call it a far-right paper. The paper has also shared stories that people disagree with. It once published books that questioned facts about war crimes in World War II.

In 2014, the paper had a legal problem in South Korea. A court looked at an article about a Korean leader. A reporter named Tatsuya Kato was part of this case. He was later found not guilty. Today, people can read the news on the web. They can also use the Japan Forward website to read in English.
