Even when the wind is not blowing, sailboats can still move using auxiliary propulsion. This is an alternate means of movement used for close maneuvering or when the wind dies. The method used depends on the size of the vessel. Very small boats might use a paddle or oars. Larger boats often use an outboard motor mounted on the transom. Some larger vessels even employ an inboard engine. This ensures the crew can still navigate even without wind power.
