It is a government department that receives annual funding to create programs. These shows cover many areas like news, education, and entertainment. RTHK reaches people through eight different radio channels and five television channels. Some of its shows even appear on commercial TV stations. This service helps keep the public informed about what is happening in their community.\n\nThe way RTHK works has changed a lot over the years. In the beginning, radio was only on-air three times a day. This happened because many presenters were freelancers with other daily jobs. In 1969, the station moved its radio transmitters to the top of Golden Hill. This move used much more powerful equipment for sending signals. However, the mountain site caused some problems with receiving signals in certain areas. Later, RTHK moved its headquarters to new studios at Broadcasting House in Kowloon Tong.\n\nThe history of RTHK began nearly one hundred years ago. The first broadcasting service in Hong Kong was called GOW. It launched on June 20, 1928, with only six staff members. By 1948, the name changed to Radio Hong Kong, or RHK. In 1976, the name became RTHK to show they were making TV shows too. That same year, they began making educational shows for schools. They even planned to release Hollywood movie tapes for home video use in 1980.\n\nThere are many specific facts about how RTHK operates today. RTHK has eight radio stations, such as Radio 1 for news and Radio 2 for music.
