Rotation is a way for objects to move. When an object rotates, it turns around a point or a line.

In a flat space, an object turns around a center point. In our three-dimensional world, objects turn around an imaginary line. We call this line an axis of rotation.

There are two main ways to rotate. The first is a spin. This happens when the axis goes through the middle of the object. For example, the Earth spins on its own axis. This spin creates the North and South Poles.

The second way is a revolution. This is also called an orbit. This happens when an object moves around something else. The Earth orbits the Sun in a big circle.

Rotation is different from circular motion. In circular motion, an object moves in a circle but stays facing the same way. In rotation, the object actually turns. This means its shape changes which way it faces.
