Rosa Parks was a civil rights leader. She was born in Alabama in 1913.

At that time, Alabama had unfair laws. These laws were called Jim Crow. They kept Black and white people apart. This happened on buses, in schools, and in many other places.

Rosa worked for the NAACP. This group fights for fair rights. She even worked to help Black people register to vote. In 1955, she sat on a bus in Montgomery. A rule said she must give her seat to a white rider. Rosa said no. She was arrested for this choice.

Her arrest started a big protest. It was called the Montgomery bus boycott. For 381 days, many Black people refused to ride the buses. They walked or found other ways to travel. This protest helped change the law. A court said bus segregation was not allowed. Rosa moved to Detroit later. She kept working for justice her whole life.
