His father, Casimero "Roy" Padilla Sr., was also a famous actor and a politician. Robin grew up in a very large family with 47 siblings. He left school when he was 17 to start acting. Later, he went back to finish a degree in criminology.

Padilla became a huge star in Filipino movies. He often played tough characters in action films. Because of these roles, people called him the "Bad Boy" of cinema. Others called him the "Prince of Action." He acted in many movies like "Bad Boy" and "Anak ni Baby Ama." Sometimes, filming was dangerous for him. He was burned during an explosion scene in one movie. He was also injured when a stunt car flipped over. In 2006, he won a special award for being a Best Actor.
