She has spent her career using journalism, poetry, and lectures to advocate for women's rights. As a leader in the international feminist movement, she has worked to change how society views gender and justice. Her 1970 anthology, Sisterhood Is Powerful, is a landmark text in feminist history. Due to specific circumstances at her birth, she was believed to be a year younger than she actually was. By age five, she hosted her own program, Little Robin Morgan, on the WOR radio station. She later became a regular on the radio version of Juvenile Jury. Her television career grew when she joined the cast of the CBS series Mama in 1949. During the Golden Age of Television, she worked with famous directors like Sidney Lumet. Despite this success, Morgan wanted to be a writer from a very young age. She fought to leave show business and left the cast of Mama at age 14.

In adulthood, Morgan transitioned into literature and intense political activism. She worked as a secretary at the Curtis Brown Literary Agency, where she met poet W. H. Auden. By the early 1960s, she was active in the anti-war Left. She also participated in the civil rights movement and the anti-Vietnam War movements. In 1967, she became a founding member of the New York Radical Women. This group focused on radical feminist issues. She also co-founded W.I.T.C.H., a group that used public street theater to protest sexism. These groups used "zaps" or "hexes" to bring attention to social injustices.

Morgan is well known for her role in the women's print movement.

She was a key organizer of the protest against the Miss America pageant. For the 1969 pageant, she designed a powerful feminist symbol. This symbol featured a raised fist inside a Venus symbol. She also published important pamphlets and notes that helped establish feminist communication networks. These networks included independent presses and bookstores created by and for women. In 1970, she even led a takeover of the underground newspaper Rat to protest sexist editorial policies.

Her work in publishing and media has been extensive and highly impactful. She served as an editor for Ms. magazine for several decades. From 1989 to 1994, she was the editor-in-chief of the publication. Under her leadership, the magazine became a successful, ad-free, international bimonthly. In 2005, she co-founded the Women's Media Center with Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda. This organization is a non-profit progressive women's media group. In 2012, she launched the weekly radio show and podcast, Women's Media Center Live With Robin Morgan. This program is distributed to 110 countries via iTunes.

Morgan has also used her resources to fund other activists. Using royalties from her book, she founded the Sisterhood Is Powerful Fund. This was the first feminist grant-giving foundation in the United States. It provided seed money to many women's groups during the 1970s and 1980s. She has also founded or co-founded many other organizations. These include the National Battered Women's Refuge Network and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her efforts have helped create lasting structures for women's support and representation.

Her activism has taken her across the globe to study cross-cultural sexism.
