He was born in Austria in 1892. Later, he moved to the United States. He spent much of his life in California. He was a leader in the International Style. This is a way of making buildings look modern.

Neutra made many beautiful homes. He liked to use straight lines and shapes. He wanted his buildings to feel light and airy. He also wanted them to fit with nature. He often mixed art with the land around a house.

Neutra cared a lot about the people using his buildings. He did not just want to show off his own art. He used long lists of questions to learn about his clients. He wanted to know their real needs. This helped him make spaces that were useful for daily life. He called this a "ready-for-anything" plan. This meant the rooms could change for different events.

His son, Dion, became an architect too. They worked together on many projects. Today, many of his buildings are protected as historic monuments. His work even inspired a special set of letters called Neutraface.
